How Therapy Works

Therapy with me is collaborative, conversational, and grounded in what's actually happening in your life.

My work is based in neuroscience and nervous system regulation. That means we pay attention not only to what you're thinking, but also to what's happening in your body, your environment, your relationships, and the patterns you've developed over time.

We start with what's happening now.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you need from therapy.

We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what's been difficult, and what you'd like to be different. From there, we'll start looking for patterns and connections that can help us understand what's going on.

We'll figure out what helps.

I draw from CBT, ACT, mindfulness, trauma-informed therapy, and other evidence-based approaches, but I don't follow a script.

Depending on what you need, therapy might involve learning to recognize nervous system responses, challenging patterns of thinking, working through difficult experiences, practicing new ways of responding, or simply making sense of something that has been difficult to understand.

Some sessions may be very practical. Others may involve going deeper into something that's been affecting you for a long time.

You don't have to perform in therapy.

You don't need to come in with the right words or know how therapy is supposed to work.

You can tell me when something doesn't make sense, when you disagree with me, or when something we're doing isn't helpful. I'll do the same.

The goal is to create a working relationship where we can be honest about what's happening and adjust as we go.

Getting started

I offer a free 15-minute consultation before beginning therapy. It's a chance to briefly talk about what you're looking for, ask questions, and see whether working together seems like a good fit.

I offer in-person therapy in Arvada and telehealth throughout Colorado.
